From Norway to Tulsa, and a Dream Wedding on a Hill

If you’re reading this then you probably already know that there is a lot of work that goes into preparing for your wedding day. Now imagine having to do this three times over the course of a few months! Linn and Cole met while in college in Oklahoma City, but Linn is from Norway, so when it came time for the big day, they had to plan three different ceremonies to make sure all of their family and friends were able to celebrate with them. Once they had made their way back to north east Oklahoma, there was only one venue that would be perfect for their final ceremony, that venue was Dream Point Ranch.

An Elegant Evening to Remember at the Adolphus Hotel in Downtown Dallas

At the dawn of the 20th century Aldophus Busch, cofounder of Anheuser-Busch, debuted the first truly luxury hotel in the booming city of Dallas. The building was the tallest building in Dallas, standing at 22 stories, and remained so for over a decade. The Adolphus was built with Germanic castle stylings in mind, only in true Texas fashion, bigger. If you are someone who loves beautiful timeless craftsmanship, classic stylings, and an elegant atmosphere, then you will be in LOVE with The Adolphus, much the same as Elizabeth and Roy were.

How to Start Your Wedding Day Shot List - at the Milestone in New Braunfels

Have you ever gotten a group of friends together for a group photo and realized that someone has been left out? In a group setting, there is often a crazy amount of distraction going on that makes it easy to lost in the noise and celebration. The bad part about getting distracted when your trying to take a large group photo is that you may just leave out someone important. This is something that can happen all too easily during a wedding day if the photographer isn’t prepped with a solid list of people, groups, and combinations of photos to take at different times during the day. These types of photos can range from particular moments while everyone is getting ready or the most important combinations of family photos after the ceremony. Needless to say, if your wedding is coming up, save yourself the grief of leaving someone important out or missing a moment that you want by giving your photographer a well laid out group and a family shot list.

Our favorite Canon cameras and lenses at Marcela and Dalton's wedding

We get asked frequently 'what kind of cameras do you use at your shoots'? While different cameras do give slightly different looks out of straight out of the camera, it's really what type of lenses they should be specifically be asking about. Different lenses allow the shooter to get very different looking shots, and different types of shots, based on the situation you are shooting. In general, we tend to lean towards Sony gear for video projects, and Canon gear for photo projects; we love Canon cameras and all of the lenses we will talk about are for Canon EF mount cameras. A few of these lenses are not so expensive and a few of them are what would be considered the best of the best. The best way to help pick a lens is to show off what lenses we use for specific things getting ready photos, group photos, portraits, ceremony, and reception. Most all of the lenses we are going to mention can be interchanged throughout the wedding day and may vary based on the style and look you are going for. We recently shot a small wedding in Downtown Dallas at Four Corners Brewery for a young and hip couple named Marcela and Dalton. This wedding is a great reference to see why we use the lenses we use on a wedding day.

The History of Photography, Part 2

In the first part of this series, we explained that the first color images were actually created in the 1800's, but the images were unstable and were not able to stay true to the subject of the photo. Because of this, people would hand paint colors of things like jewelry, lips, cheeks, and other items in the photo that would 'pop' out. After that, the process was improved quite a bit and around 1935 the process was improved again and was bought by Kodak. They named the product/service Kodachrome and this process persevered for many years, as they created a similar and less expensive process for home photographers to create their own labs to process their own photographs. Many photographers were very pleased by the sharp colors and details the film was able to produce. There! Now that we're a little more caught up with the timeline, let's jump into the 20th century, where we left off with the beginnings of Kodachrome and color images.

Budgeting for a Wedding - 21 Ideas to Save

The best thing to do before you really get into the planning of your wedding is to find out what aspects of the day are the most important to you. Maybe you don’t care THAT much about having a fancy cake, but you KNOW you want a band or a DJ to help make sure the dance floor is fun. Maybe the invitations you send out don’t HAVE to have thick gold foil with return envelopes and custom monograms that seal the invitations close, but you DEFINITELY want to make sure you have great photos. Having your partner in on these decisions is a must - while one of you may think having the cheaper white folding chairs would be just fine, the other might have their dreams set on those nicer wooden ones that cost a little more. Rather than waiting until one of you makes those choices and end up in a long-winded, possibly less than productive conversation, talking about both of your priorities and non-negotiables will help prevent time loss on things like venues and caterers that need the most notice ahead of time. But no matter what you both decide on, our budgeting tips will help you discover ways to save money on the wedding that you may not have thought about.
