On a beautiful day in Kansas City, Kara and Mike made their vows to one another and promised to spend the rest of their lives together at the Magnolia Venue and Urban Garden. It was an honor to capture this wonderful day and one we won't forget. Kara and Mike were a lovely couple, both with a great sense of humor. We got to know interesting things about the happy couple, like how Kara is a basketball player and coach. Kara, the beautiful bride, prepared for the special day ahead in her apartment building, downstairs in the lobby. It was a stunning, historic building that had been renovated into beautiful apartments. Kara and her bridesmaids smiled from ear to ear as they got ready. They helped Kara with her shoes whilst her Mom fastened her stunning, white floor-length gown. She looked truly radiant and you could see her excitement for the day ahead. Her bridesmaids each wore a unique gown, in different shades of coral and dusky pink. They all looked stunning.
Downtown, we caught up with the guys, who were prepping in Mike's place of work. Mike looked very smart in his blue suit, brown brogues and stunning watch that was gifted to him from his soon to be wife. His groomsmen helped with his suit jacket and prepared him for what would be a very special day.
During the preparations, Mike and Kara opened gifts from one another. It was an emotional and touching moment. You could see these thoughtful gifts really reassured the couple and they couldn't wait to see each other at the altar.
Kara and Mike married at the Magnolia Venue and Urban Garden in Kansas City. We captured a stunning first look moment between the pair. Kara walked down the outdoor altar, past the wooden chairs, to meet her soon to be husband who was (in)patiently waiting for her. When the groom turned around, you could see all the emotion and joy he was feeling seeing his beautiful bride. They both beamed with smiles. It was a truly touching moment.
We went to a few locations around Kansas City, including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Later, we captured elegant and stunning photographs of the bride and groom on the bridge. It was wonderful to capture both urban shots and natural, green backdrop shots. Of course, no wedding shots would be complete without being surrounded by the bridal party and the groomsmen; the people closest to them. As well as some fun shots, it was wonderful to capture them all walking together and see them all looking so happy to be sharing this day together.
The couple were pronounced husband and wife at their gorgeous ceremony, surrounded by friends and family under strings of twinkling lights. A close friend officiated the marriage and all the family were very emotional. Mike and Kara read their personal vows before they said 'I do'. After the ceremony, we captured some portraits outside. The beautiful, natural green space made a wonderful contrast to the city shots. We whisked the couple away to capture some stunning, sunset portraits. They were elated to be husband and wife and it was an honor to capture their first moments together as a married couple. The evening celebrations were a lot of fun. As we headed into the room, with the bar to the right, the delicious food at the back and the dance floor ready to go, we could tell this was going to be a wonderful evening. The venue had stunning floral arrangements and exposed brick walls. Laughter and tears were shared during the toasts. Friends and family raised a glass and celebrated in to the night. The dance floor was soon full, as crowds danced and celebrated under twinkling lights.
Kara and Mike, we can't begin to thank you enough for allowing us to document your big day. We got to hang out throughout the whole day and by the end it felt like we were close friends. It was really touching to know that the photos we took are going to hang on your walls forever, and to know that when you look at them you're going to have a lot of love in your hearts.
